This is a list of Frequently Asked Questions for the British Jukebox Owners mailing list (Revision 1.5).
How do I join the list?
If you would like to subscribe to the British Jukebox Owners mailing list, send an email to mailto:bjoforum-subscribe@egroups.com or visit the Egroup web site at http://www.egroups.com/group/bjoforum and follow the instructions.
I have tried to join the list with no success. What should I do?
If you have trouble joining the list then contact Pelham West (mailto:pelhamwest@onetel.net.uk) who has the means to make manual additions to the list.
How do I leave the list?
Although I cannot believe that you really want to unsubscribe from our list, if you need to, send an email to mailto:bjoforum-unsubscribe@egroups.com
What should I post?
For your first post to the list we recommend that you introduce yourself and where your interest in jukeboxes lies. List members are always interested in what jukeboxes other people have, so why not let us know what machines are in your collection, whether you have restored them yourself, what state of repair they are (or were) in, or what machines you would like to own. If you wish to contact like-minded people in your area (perhaps to meet up or share lifts to shows etc) then post a rough geographic location as well.
Can I post pictures/binaries on the list?
No. The reason for this is two-fold.
I posted a £ but I saw a #
Egroup (and, indeed, the Internet in general) is an international resource, and, as such, has to cater with multi-national standards. There is not, however, a single international standard character-set that can cater for all the keyboard requirement of all the countries in the world that use computers. As a result, country specific characters sometimes get distorted or changed as they pass through different processes and gateways. Currency symbols are the most frequent victims.
I notice other members referring to a posting I didn't receive, or I posted to the list but nothing seems to have appeared. How come?
Although we used to see this type of problem when we used Cool-list as our host, we have not experienced this much on Egroup. If you suspect problems of this nature, contact Pelham West (mailto:pelhamwest@onetel.net.uk) who will investigate it for you. Please note that if your ISP's mail server is down at the time an email is distributed by Egroup then it will not be received (i.e. Egroup doesn't keep retrying to send emails like your own ISP tends do). Therefore, if there is a single occurrence of not receiving an email then this might be the case.
Can I advertise on the list?
Yes, adverts are encouraged both from private individuals and from jukebox
dealers. However, these should relate to specific items for sale. General
business adverts or postings referring to items placed on auction sites
such as Ebay are not allowed.
You can also place a free advert on our web site which will appear at http://welcome.to/british-jukebox-owners/ads.htm.
Contact Tom Harvey (mailto:bjo@tomh.demon.co.uk)
with details, including a contact email address or phone number to include
on the advert.
What is considered 'on-topic' for the list?
Anything that relates to jukeboxes is considered 'on-topic'. There is also a wide grey area that can also be considered on-topic which covers items such as records, music, other coin-operated machines (e.g. games or vending machines), antique radios, electronics etc. A certain amount of friendly 'off-topic' discussion is also tolerated, but please try to take topics that exclude the group to e-mail.
Who's who on the list (and what jukes do they own)?
If you wish to know if there is a particular person on the list, or if there is anyone on the list who lives near you or has a similar model jukebox you can either ask the question in a posting to the list or direct your query to Pelham West (mailto:pelhamwest@onetel.net.uk). He maintains a database of members, their location and jukeboxes owned.
